Invitation to the EUSEW 2026 Policy Session “Rebuilding MED Cities Together: Community Engagement and Innovative Finance for Climate Neutrality”
The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the European Commission’s flagship event dedicated to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the clean energy transition. Bringing together policymakers, cities, industry representatives, financial institutions, researchers, and civil society organisations from across Europe, EUSEW 2026 will focus on advancing a clean, secure, and competitive Energy Union. Held in Brussels and online from 9–11 June 2026, the event provides a unique platform to discuss key energy and climate challenges, share innovative solutions, and shape future European energy policy.
Within this year’s programme, the policy session “Rebuilding MED Cities Together: Community Engagement and Innovative Finance for Climate Neutrality” will address one of the most pressing challenges facing local authorities today: how to finance ambitious climate and energy objectives in a context where grants alone are no longer sufficient. Organised within the Interreg Euro-MED framework, the session will bring together representatives of EU institutions, ministries, Mediterranean cities, energy agencies, and international organisations to explore practical and scalable financing solutions for local energy transitions.
The discussion will focus on innovative financing models, fiscal instruments, citizen participation, energy communities, and project preparation support that can help municipalities implement climate-neutral and resilient projects while respecting budgetary constraints. Through keynote presentations, a high-level panel discussion, and interactive audience engagement, the session will highlight concrete examples and policy recommendations to accelerate inclusive and bankable local energy investments across Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Speakers include:
- Julije Domac (FEDARENE – European Network of Regional and Local Energy Agencies and Regions) – Moderator of the session
- Adrien Bullier (CINEA – European Commission)
- Ana Zorić (Croatian Ministry of Finance)
- Roberta Boniotti (MEDENER – Mediterranean Association of National Agencies for Energy Management)
- Corentin Girard (Valencia Sostenible)
- Georgios Marinakis (Regional Union of Municipalities of Crete)
The session is organised within the Interreg Euro-MED framework, together with a broad network of Mediterranean and European partners working on sustainable energy transition and climate neutrality.
We warmly invite local and regional authorities, policymakers, financial institutions, energy agencies, researchers, and practitioners to join the discussion and help shape the future of inclusive and bankable local energy investments.
